Babbage’s Analytical Engine as a General-Purpose Mechanical Computer Architecture
תוכן האובייקטים עצמם כתוב באנגלית ועדיין לא תורגם.
- תקופה ומקור
- From the 1830s; documented by Menabrea in 1842 and Lovelace in 1843, and never completed in Babbage’s lifetime
- מה הוא נבנה לעשות
- To compute anything a sequence of operations could express, rather than the single class of results a difference engine produces.
- כיצד המנגנון פועל
- The Engine separates a Store for numbers from a Mill for arithmetic. Operation cards select functions, variable cards address operands and destinations, number cards introduce constants. Control mechanisms support sequencing and, in documented designs, repetition and conditional action.
- קלט
- Card-controlled instructions, and constants.
- טרנספורמציה
- A state transition over decimal memory and an instruction position - Store and Mill exchanging values under card control.
- פלט
- Computed values, with iteration and conditional branching available to the programme.
- מה מבוסס בראיות
- מבוסס: הממצא או התיעוד נושאים זאת במישרין.
- מה הוא מדגים
- Store and Mill separation, instruction media, addressable variables, iteration and conditional control - direct conceptual antecedents of computer architecture. The project is historically real and materially incomplete, and the comparison to a modern machine is informative rather than an identity.
